Exploration of Grima

Research project exploring the phenomenon of grima: chills induced by experiencing unpleasant sounds or textures. This project documents popular triggers for this phenomenon using a binaural microphone.

The first video is purely a documentation of these popular triggers and experiences.

The two videos Below are experiments to document people’s reactions to these triggers

This documentation uses a heartbeat adapter to collect a viewer’s heartbeat as they watch the video. Then that data is visualized by the red dots alongside the video.

This documentation uses a manual data collecting approach of participants tapping on a microphone when they felt discomfort. Then those audio files are interpreted into a similar data visualization of dots as the other documentation.
